Jael Prepares To Strike

                                      30 x 36

Gouache, pen, pencil, ink, and nail enamel on canvas

Jael prepares to strike slumbering Sisera.

Too sound asleep to hear the instruments of execution being assembled.

Just as military spouses are experts at efficiently packing for frequent moves, the tent dwelling Kenites had the routine down for setting up and dismantling their dwellings.

Also, adverse weather conditions could create situations that called for immediate repair or reinforcement, so all the tools of the trade—such as hammers, tent pegs, supports, and braces, were kept within handy reach.

Here, Jael is represented ready to fulfill the judgment on Sisera he had planned for the Hebrews. "She put her hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workmen's hammer; and with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote off his head, when she had pierced and stricken through his temples."  Judges 5:26
